In early 2021, Doorcy was introduced by Joep van Liempd (Streamlined), Thomas de Groot (Guyiday), and Bas van Diejen in response to the restrictive measures on visitor numbers for shops, restaurants, and other public buildings. The app was linked to a physical traffic light, allowing people to see how busy it was both on location and from a distance. The solution for clear building managementWhen Joep got in touch with Jeroen de Laat a few months later, it turned out that Doorcy's basic concept could be the solution to a completely different problem. Jeroen, who had owned a structural security company for many years, regularly encountered issues with the control of complex meter boxes in large buildings. The collaboration between Joep and Jeroen not only gave Doorcy a second life, but also took the project to new heights. The product was extensively tested in a pilot project and received an enthusiastic response, after which Doorcy was deployed at several locations.
One of the first locations where Doorcy was used in its current form is a large sports hall where the door and light switching was tailored to the visitors who use the building.
